Camila Mendes had to speak out about struggles

Camila Mendes thinks it was "necessary" to speak about her battle with bulimia.

The ‘Riverdale’ actress went public with her eating disorder struggles last year and she hopes her story will inspire others to confront their own issues as she wants to be a positive role model.

She said: "It just felt so necessary for me to speak about those things.

"I realised that I have this platform, and young women and men who look up to me, and there is a tremendous power to do something positive with it."

And the 24-year-old actress admits she takes strength and gains more confidence when other celebrities open up about their own body battles.

She told the new issue of Shape magazine: "This body-positivity movement we’re having right now is so amazing and it’s helping me so much. I’m seeing all these people I look up to, like Rihanna, open up about their weight fluctuations and loving themselves the way they are. That makes me love myself more too."

In order to stay healthy, Camila makes sure she takes some time for herself and has also found support from a therapist and a nutritionist.

As a result, the brunette beauty has stopped dieting and just makes sure she eats healthily and is "proud" she’s overcome her problems.

She said: "I was always on some kind of weird diet but I haven’t been on one since. I’m very proud of myself."

But that doesn’t mean the actress doesn’t still have days when she feels insecure, so she’s come up with a mantra to help her through moments of low confidence.

She tells herself: "You’re fine. You look good. This is your prime, so enjoy it."
